On a farm that would become known as “Feilton”, the Feil family built a life around soil, seasons, and stock. They grew hops and fruit, raised animals, and learned to read the weather in the hills and the river in the morning light. Black-and-white photographs from those days show hop rows, timber kilns, Bullock teams, and boots worn thin from work.
Over generations, that same Feil spirit moved from paddocks to workshops, and across the world. The family’s skills evolved from manual tools to machines, from farm sheds to industrial sheds, from working the land to managing assets on it and above it.

Historical photo collections, local archives, and documented captions all point to the same thing:

Our story begins in 1849, when Christian Michael Feil was born in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Like many early settlers, he carried his trade, his courage, and his family name across the world to New Norfolk, Tasmania– a river valley of hop fields, orchards, and hard winters.
